The Rescue Project
No dog wears wrinkles better than Matthew! He's a Shar Pei-Lab mix and under a year old. Given that he's young, he's also pretty darned active, but he matches his energy level with the ginormous amount of love he has to give.
Sadly, Matthew was found wandering in the woods, but the kind folks at The Rescue Project told him he'd never again be hungry or abandoned. Now he knows the comforts of being an indoor dog, which include (but are by no means limited to) cuddling on the couch, having his belly rubbed, and having access to yummy treats. He’s got a sweet little attention-hog personality. Matthew just wants to be right next to you, basking in your adoration. He’s a silly, playful puppy that loves to play with allll the toys--ropes, stuffies, tennis balls, squeaky ones. Pick a toy, any toy, and he's a fan.
He's a very smart boy and such a good listener. In fact, Matthew knows "sit" and "down" and is very good at coming when called. He's pretty good at "back" and "stay" when you need him to back away and stay when you're trying to exit a door he thinks he's going to go through with you. "Leave it" and "wait" are a work in progress. He's even housetrained!
Matthew is still pretty shy with new people, but he's working on getting more comfortable with introductions to strangers. He's going to need a patient, adult-only home where he can have the time, space, and training to be his very best doggy self. (The Pet Connection will support his new people with training and guidance!) Matthew enjoys the company of the other dogs in his foster home but isn't so crazy about them messing with his food and toys.
He's truly a wonderful, sweet little guy with a heart of gold. More than anything, Matthew just wants to be loved and taken care of by his people.
If you're interested in meeting Matthew, please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 or fill out an application at The Rescue Project's website at https://therescueproject.net/adoption-application. Matthew's adoption fee is $150 and includes age-appropriate vaccines, spay/neuter, microchip, deworm, and heartworm testing. He's in the Kansas City metro, but transport is available to his new digs.
